The paddlefish was introduced into ponds of Belarusian fish farms in 2001. The paper reports first results of cultivation of this valuable species under conditions of the Republic. In 1961, 32 lakes belonging to Vitebsk fish farm (nothern Belarus) were surveyed to desribe the hydrology, water chemistry, forage reserve for fish, and eco-biological parameters of the latter. The check list of fish species includes introduced Carassius auratus gibelio, Cyprinus carpio and Cyprinus carpio haematopterus. The results of experimental culturing of peled in a Belarusian fish-farm conducted in 1964 are presented. Growth rate and feeding preferences were monitored at different stages of the fish individual development.
