Aquatic invaders of Belarus: 2008 Report Print
04-01-2009

Dear visitors,

Below please find a brief summary on what is known about the divesity of aquatic alien species in Belarus as of the beginning of 2009.

In 2008, 4 new established alien species have been reported from the waterbodies of Belarus, including the snail Ferrisia fragilis, amphipods Obesogammarus obesus and Obesogammarus crassus, and the fish Syngnathus abaster. Thus, there are 55 known alien species present now in the waters of the country. As previously, this pool of invaders is dominated by fishes and crustaceans - a situation very similar to that in many other parts of the world (figure).
